Frequently asked questions
Is Cue & Chalk free?
Yes. 8-ball, 9-ball, snooker, the eye-level camera and online rooms are free. Premium (custom ball colours, extra camera angles and crowd applause) is a one-off unlock that is coming soon, with a 7-day free trial.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up. Your names, settings and win record are kept on your own device.
How do I play a friend online?
On the menu choose “Online: create a room”. Share the four-letter code with your friend, who enters it under “Join”. You each play on your own device and see the other’s shot and camera about half a second behind.
Which games can I play?
8-ball (solids and stripes, or reds and yellows), 9-ball, and snooker with the full 22-ball layout.
What is the eye-level camera?
A low camera behind the cue ball, just above ball height, with a narrow field of view, so you line up shots as if you were leaning over a real table. You can switch to an overhead view at any time.
Which rules does the game use?
Standard rules with a few simplifications: 8-ball needs no pocket calling, and 9-ball has no push-out or three-foul rule. Snooker has fouls, respotted colours, break tracking, conceding and a respotted black on a tied frame. The free ball and miss rules are not in yet.
Will there be an app?
iPhone and Android apps are planned. The web game works in any modern browser today.
Does a web purchase unlock the apps?
No. Web, iPhone and Android purchases are separate, as the app stores require.
